RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Head of Technology include, but are not limited to:

Strategic Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, shaping and driving the company’s overall technology vision and strategy.
  • Collaborate with product, operations, and business leadership to align technical initiatives with company goals and client needs.
  • Advocate effectively for technology priorities and resources at the executive level, balancing technical excellence with business impact.

Technology Strategy & Execution

  • Own and execute the comprehensive technology roadmap and architecture decisions across all products and systems.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement while managing technical debt, system reliability, security, and performance.
  • Oversee data governance and ensure compliance with industry and organizational standards.

Team Building & Talent Management

  • Build, mentor, and lead multiple engineering teams, including Engineering Managers and technical leads, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and high performance.
  • Develop and implement talent acquisition, retention, and professional development strategies to scale and maintain an effective engineering organization.
  • Provide clear performance management and coaching to empower individuals and teams.

Operational Excellence & Process Optimization

  • Establish and maintain development standards, best practices, and technical processes to ensure high quality and efficient delivery.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and capacity planning to optimize ROI and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee day-to-day engineering operations, removing obstacles to ensure smooth execution and timely delivery.

Communication & Reporting

  • Translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and informed decision-making.
  • Implement and maintain metrics and reporting systems to monitor engineering productivity, system health, and project progress.
  • Manage vendor relationships and partner with external providers to support organizational technology needs.

** This is a full-time, in-person position based in Owensboro, KY. **


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years in software development with 4+ years in senior technical leadership (Director or above) as a lead of leads.
  • Proven experience scaling engineering teams (5 to 25+ developers), including remote resources.
  • Expertise in modern software architecture, cloud platforms (AWS preferred), cybersecurity, data governance, Agile, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Strong technical skills in JavaScript, React, Node.js, TypeScript, Next.js, with experience in CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Demonstrated track record architecting, deploying, and maintaining scalable, secure applications.
  • Experience managing the full software development lifecycle and developing technical roadmaps aligned with business goals in product led organizations.
  • Skilled in budget and resource management, and presenting complex technical concepts to executives and non-technical audiences.
  • Strategic planner with a focus on change management, goal setting, and execution.

Preferred

  • MBA or advanced technical degree (e.g., Master’s in Computer Science).
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Certified Scrum Master, or equivalent.
  • Experience scaling development teams within high-growth or startup environments.
  • History of wearing multiple hats and adapting in dynamic, smaller company settings.
  • Previous leadership roles like CTO, VP of Engineering, or Senior Engineering Manager at software organizations.
  • Familiarity with the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) framework.

  • Background or experience within the AgTech industry.
